European Networking and Resources for the Work with Perpetrators of Domestic Violence
This website provides several resources for practitioners, researchers and decision makers in the area of work with perpetrators of domestic violence. These resources has been developed by the European Daphne II project Work with Perpetrators of Domestic Violence in Europe (WWP) to facilitate a European-wide exchange of approved methods in the work with male perpetrators of domestic violence and to initiate an ongoing discussion about standards in this work throughout Europe.
European Focal Point for the Work with Perpetrators of Domestic Violence
Based on the former Daphne II project WWP - Work with Perpetrators of Domestic Violence in Europe and on the wish of the attendant practitioners and network representatives from work with perpetrators and women's support at the project's international final workshop in January 2008 in Berlin, Dissens planned activities to foster the European exchange about good work with perpetrators of domestic violence and set up an European Focal Point for the Work with Perpetrators of Domestic Violence. The aim of the Focal Point - supported by the European Commission's Daphne III programme - is to advance the implementation of treatment programmes for perpetrators of domestic violence in Europe that consequently implement victim safety measures.
Several activities of the "European Focal Point for the Work with Perpetrators in Europe" are carried out in 2009:
- A small survey of needs for support and exchange is conducted.
- We organise an expert and network meeting in Berlin, December 3rd to Dec 5th, 2009. [Updated]
- We offer financial support for trainings and knowledge transfer events.
- The database of programmes working with perpetrators of domestic violence in the EU, build by WWP, will be updated.
Furthermore, the following activities are planned:
- Establishing a network of national contact points for the work with perpetrators of domestic violence
- Distributing regular electronic newsletters (announcing conferences, literature, events, ...)
- Build up an database of experts in trainings and knowledge transfer in work with perpetrators of domestic violence
- Establish a weblog as a place for discussions and news about work with perpetrators in Europe.
Provide contacts and information
The multilingual database – developed by the former Daphne II project WWP– with information about treatment programmes of perpetrators is the most comprehensive in Europe. This data base will be kept up to date and completed. The existing website with several resources will be enhanced. The Focal Point plans to develop an expert database and a network of national focal points.
Foster exchange
The Focal Point plans to distribute relevant information regarding work with perpetrators in Europe by electronic newsletters and the website: coming events like conferences, seminars, training courses for professionals, publications.
The Focal Point organises a (yearly) expert conference with practitioners of perpetrator treatment and victim support, researchers and policy makers to discuss the further needs of development of work with perpetrators of domestic violence in Europe. The first annual expert conference will take place in Berlin, December 3rd to 5th, 2009 [Updated]. Please contact us for more information.
Support trainings and dissemination of experience
The Focal Point supports trainings, transfer of research results and dissemination of good practice models, especially in European regions where work with perpetrators of domestic violence is not yet common. If you are setting up a perpetrator programme or plan to improve your work with the aid of an external expert there are some funds to pay the costs for this external expert.
These activities and services for practitioners and networkers in the field of domestic violence are planned to be continued in the next years, depending on further funding.
Please contact us if you interested in using the services or if you like to contribute to the activities.
