Project information
The documents and resources presented on this website are products of the project WWP - Work with perpetrators of domestic violence in Europe.
The project was funded by The European Commission's Daphne II Programme to combat violence against children, young people and women and the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
Eight project partners of seven European countries ran the project from April 2006 to June 2008.
The main goal of the project was to increase the safety of the victims of domestic violence by fostering a European exchange about good practice in the work with male perpetrators of domestic violence.
As an important step to reach this aim the project established an internet based database with detailed information about programmes working with male perpetrators of domestic violence in the EU.
The project partners conducted a survey by a standardised questionnaire in English, German, French and Spanish. The survey targeted institutions working or planning to work with male perpetrators of domestic violence based on a specific concept. [Survey Data]
As a second step, the project intends to stimulate the discussion on a European level about methodological and ethical requirements for responsible work, particular with regard to the protection of victims of domestic violence and about necessary measures of documentation and evaluation.
For these reasons, the project prepared guidelines to develop standards for programmes working with male perpetrators of domestic violence and important aspects regarding documentation and evaluation.
These products have been developed in exchange between the project partners and discussed with international experts in the project's final workshop, held on January 31st and February 1st, 2008 near Berlin, Germany. The results of the final workshop are integrated in the documents you will find at the Resources section.
The main target group for using the gathered information are practitioners working with male perpetrators of domestic violence and professionals who are confronted with domestic violence in their daily work, as staff of police, prosecution authorities, women's shelters, help lines, counselling centres and other.
Beyond that, results should support decision makers and policy to foster domestic violence intervention strategies and to improve the frame conditions for the work with perpetrators/ perpetrator programmes.
